General Description:

SeaTak is a revolutionary new adhesive that is designed to be used in dry, damp or underwater applications. Due to its slow curing time, it allows for extended working/repositioning when compared to cyanoacrylates and 2-part epoxies. SeaTak can be used for coral fragging, attaching frags to rock and in aquascaping.  SeaTak will begin to slowly cure when it is exposed to water. Always use caution and wear skin and eye protection when applying SeaTak.

Common SeaTak uses:

  • Gluing coral frags to plugs or rocks
  • Gluing frag plugs to rocks underwater
  • Aquascaping while dry (spray adhesive with water to cure) or underwater
  • Permanently adhering decorations or aquascaping inserts underwater
  • Saltwater
  • Freshwater
  • Ponds
  • Terrariums
  • Vivariums
  • Paludarium
  • Adhering rock to glass or metal
  • Plastic / PVC repair

Why SeaTak over epoxy?

SeaTak contains calcium carbonate, producing an inviting surface on which corals tissue and coralline algae will grow. It will not cloud your water or cause your protein skimmer to overfoam.

Epoxy contains talc as well as amines, which can be toxic. Increases water surface tension, causing the protein skimmer to malfunction.

Why SeaTak over cyanoacrylate?

SeaTak does not burn coral tissues. There is no squeeze out when adhering corals to rock or plugs. Seatak will not allow water in tube and it is easy to clean up with isopropyl alcohol.

Cyanoacrylate burns coral tissue. The thin consistency causes squeeze out that wraps around coral causing damage to the tissue and polyps. Cyanoacrylate sticks to fingers and is difficult to remove. When water gets into bottle, cyanoacrylate hardens and results in wasted product.

How fast does SeaTak harden?

Working Time:   30 minutes

Sea-Tak is nontoxic when cured. The curing process will start as soon as SeaTak is exposed to water.

SeaTak will remain pliable for the first 30 minutes. Should a frag fall over, the adhesive can be reworked on the plug and the frag can be repositioned in the adhesive. During this time, frags should be placed in an area of very low flow.

Soft Set Time:   60-90 minutes

SeaTak will form a thin outer skin. At this time, the adhesive will no longer be tacky on the surface but will be somewhat soft underneath. Frags should remain under low flow during this time.

Firm Set Time:   2-4 hours

The adhesive will begin to feel firm and be difficult to compress with your finger. Frags can be moved to an area of medium current if desired.

Full Cure Time:   3-4 days

Within 6-12 hours, the adhesive with reach a strength that is stronger than the rock. SeaTak will continue to cure for several days and will reach a tensile strength of 1500 PSI after approximately 3 to 4 days.

How strong is SeaTak?

SeaTak can reach a tensile strength of 1500 PSI when fully cured, making it extremely difficult to remove. You will most likely break the rock or frag before breaking the glue joint.

Cleanup:

Before it sets and cures, SeaTak can be removed from utensils and surfaces with a paper towel. Any residual adhesive can be removed with isopropyl alcohol, denatured alcohol or acetone (use caution when applying on plastics).

Once SeaTak is cured, it can only be removed mechanically by chipping, scraping, or abrading the dried adhesive. Be sure to clean up any SeaTak before it hardens.
